After a large-scale EMP strike, the world is left without electricity and peculiar natural phenomenon start to occur frequently. Write about a person exploring an extreme environment in this world.

Saturated

It is early in the morning, far too early for brightness like this, and yet the man feels it, even before he has opened his eyes. Once they are open, any signs of sleep are quickly erased as he is, quite literally, taken aback, intimidated by the intensity of all the colors surrounding him. He feels sentient in that all the shades and hues of every object in the room have been stimulated, dialed up to colors more striking than conceivable. Saturation is steadily fighting its way through into every corner of the room. It is all very picturesque, but in the most sickening way.

He thinks that perhaps he is being delirious, but he walks through the hallway, and the shadows that penetrate the walls are somehow darker, and deeper too in the most unnatural way. They are ominous, and he knows that this is something else, something beyond him. He is nothing but helpless as the shadows engulf him altogether.

Once the man emerges, he finds his wife in the kitchen, sitting at the counter. She turns around, giving him a tight-lipped smile. In fact, it is almost as though her lips have disappeared completely into her face. When she begins speaking, the man can’t help but notice the fresh sticky coat of lipstick that has been accidentally smeared across her upper lip. It is a very obnoxiously bright shade of pink, similar to the one rendered on her cheeks.

He is not listening; she sighs, realizing this.

Very Interesting. This reminded me of quite literally the Plato's cave allegory, when prisoners were blinded from light after emerging out of a cave they'd lived their entire lives. Diction and sense of reality were great too for illustrating this man's sentience and perception. Thank you, Lina!
