Round 12: Taher

The Prompt: Freezing time. It's something we have all thought about whether it be for our own selfish reasons or maybe a heroic cause. Explore the freezing of time and be creative. The more out there the better.

Word Limit:
110-130 words (no more, no less)

Expectations:

I stood there, ashamed of what i have done. I wished the earth would open and swallow me. Suddenly the voice drifted off. Movements decreased in speed. No one was moving. And yet, here i was. I looked around, i could do whatever i want. I could play, i could watch a movie, and i could do anything i want because no one will stop me as they are all trapped in an hourglass. I ran, i saw. I could kill a person and i could steal. I could help a person and i could learn. Whatever we do with out time is very important. Who knew time was so powerful?

Time answered my call. It followed me like a dog on a leash, never touching anyone else. I pet it and kissed it, rupturing its fabrics, but I did all I wanted, and Time stood guard for me. I went from house to house until my boots tracked black, and Time trotted happily behind. When I had finished, I went back home. The moon was still high in the sky. I unclipped Time, and it walked freely once more. The ice glistened around me and the stars groaned and creaked as they started moving again. My wife waited for me at our cottage. She unclipped my red cloak and cupped my face in her hands. “Good job, Santa. Time to prep for next year.”

If i could stop time, i wouldn't be answering this prompt because i would have a whole eternity to live. And i will just hop on my bed, lay down, and fall to deep sleep without having Mr Chris knocking on my door. And when i am awake i will visit every spot on this earth and i will try everything life has to offer. And when i am done, I will resume time so i can ditch school and university and die peacefully knowing that i have lived my life to the fullest.

BUT, lets be honest. None of this would happen because TIME CANNOT BE STOPPED.

Cupid

I embraced myself, prepared to witness as the antique glass sculpture I knocked over, shattered into a million different pieces. I wanted to watch it scatter. I wanted it to feel pain. That little Cupid figurine with its menacing eyes, staring back at me, tormenting me every night. I wanted to watch it suffer, just like I did. Love hurt me, and I wanted to hurt it back. I braced for the impact that was about to unfold…. except, it never did. The figurine never hit the ground; Time froze. I froze. I had wanted to inflict pain so badly. And I did,
I hurt myself once more.

I never thought about time, other than when running to class. Time is unstoppable, time is certain, and most importantly time is inevitable. The more you dwell on how life is short, or when the upcoming test will be, the faster it will go. Whilst the longer you stare at the clock, the slower the time will pass. But what if this was all a simulation, or all controlled by a greater power. When they see us struggling the slow down the time, but when we finally have fun time goes by in an instant. But what if everything froze from time to time without us knowing, what would happen if we were aware of this?

Photographs

My grandmother grinned as she looked through her photo album and gently stoked the pictures. She showed me pictures of her parents and her siblings and their old house. She told me stories of her years in high school and the mini market she visited every day that was right next to her house. In one of the photos, my grandmother was at her desk in her school uniform, plaid skirt white shirt and all. It was slightly hard to believe that the fourteen-year-old in the Polaroid is my grandmother. But then I guess, she wasn’t exactly the same person, yet still the young girl she once was, was kept safe and frozen in time in that photo album. It only took that picture for my grandmother to remember what is was like to be fourteen.

One hour is all I could ask for, an hour of alone time from the prying eyes of others. An hour to enjoy myself without the need to look out for what could be said. To scream, to shout, to cry, to laugh, nothing more. Perhaps this hour could be the most therapeutic it will get in this long ride. An hour away from these global issues surrounding us on the news. Possibly, during this hour I could think of a plan to reach world peace, or watch the world burn down to ashes. Yet, this hour could shatter me. An hour of silence, without anyone around, the unbearable sound of nothing.

The Pantomath

As a child, you were fascinated with the universe. In high school, you took cosmology courses, further pursuing these subjects in college. Now, you were here, ready to embark on a new chapter of your life. Visions of discoveries flashed across your yearning eyes. Suddenly, everything and everyone stopped, frozen in time. You don’t know why or how this happened, and it didn’t really matter. Yet, even when faced with this catastrophic dilemma, curiosity still shone through. In due time, you were able to explore the whole universe, discovering all its secrets. And when there was nothing left unknown, you went back to the Earth. “This is it? This is all life has to offer.” You thought to yourself, proceeding to paint your wrists crimson red. With every droplet of blood, the flame of curiosity was slowly suffocated. But life went on, the universe was indifferent to your infinitesimal circumstance.

A few words on the winner from the judge:
This small piece is amazing and incorporates a well made - somewhat - twist in a ~130 word paragraph. At first, I was unsure of the dog metaphor but by the end, I saw the full circle and the wonderful ending. Wonderful job! My favorite line is, "The ice glistened around me and the stars groaned and creaked as they started moving again."

That makes this last sentence our diagram of the week. Yasmeen will be informing you more about this.
