Round 3: Isabella's Choice

Your Prompt:
From the quintessential white sheet costume to horror movie ghouls, ghosts are a hallmark of Halloween. Consider why we are taught to fear ghosts. Ghosts defy nature. Ghosts defy religion. Ghosts remind us of the past. Should we fear these lost souls of myth?

-Word Count: 110 - 130 words (no more, no less)

-Your work should have a title--this is not part of your word count.

Believe
Word count: 130

“Seeing is believing,” said Victor. “Always remember. Seeing is believing.”
Emma nodded.
“Run along, darling, and help prepare dinner.”
As the soft patters of Emma’s feet receded, Victor opened the door of his study. On the table was a woman. “Take good care of her,” the woman warned.

“Seeing is believing,” repeated Emma, setting the table. A muffled gasp echoed through the house.

Victor stood over the woman’s body. “All for nothing,” he mused.

“Do you believe now?” asked a voice from behind her. The spirit’s voice layered into whistles and groans. Outside, the wind began to blow.
Emma pressed herself against the table.
“For nothing!” screeched the spectre. “That fool— he will never believe!” The raging tempest calmed. The spirit drew herself back into nothingness and Emma was alone.

Ghosts are beliefs, either you believe in them or you don't. Ghosts are scary because we made them scary. We made horror films to scare people, but maybe ghosts don't want to hurt us. No one will ever know until they counter one. The basic fear of ghosts are their immortality, we people fear death. Ghosts are scary because they don't fear it, they will never do. You will sure fear anything that is a mystery and a immortal. Everything we are scared of traces back to the basic fear of death, if your mortal of course you can fear something that isn't because it can hurt you but you cant hurt you.Just like flowers are traced back to its stem.
