Round 5: Isabella

On November 14th, 2018, astronomers announced the discovery of a Super-Earth planet (3.2x bigger than Earth) orbiting the red dwarf Barnard's star, which is six light years away. The planet is called Barnard’s Star b. If life existed there, it would be a frosty existence. Average surface temperatures are –170 degrees Celcius. You’d also be a bit older there as a year is only 233 days. But if that were the last best hope of civilization, what would a day be like there?

Your piece must start with the word “Super” and end with the word “Earth”.

-Word Count: 110 - 130 words (no more, no less)

“Super cool!” said the only surviving child the entire universe in a very eerie high pitched voice as he observed the rocky landscape in front of him with wide eyes. He clutched his triple layer coat tightly.
The others weren’t so happy. They were still looking at the smoldering remains of the ship that brought them here. What were they supposed to do with nothing? Is humanity supposed to start the same process again?
The UN had met for the last Security Council in the history of the solar system and concluded that they should save the human race by sending the brightest to the newly discovered super-earth.
Humanity’s last attempt to undo everything all the damage they did to their own earth.

Their lies
“Super -Earth” they said. As I felt my legs perplex and my body surrender under the bleak water of Barnard Star b, I remembered what my friend had once told me, “In order to change the world, one must destroy it.” I didn’t see meaning in it then, but now I know that his truth was the biggest lie to see through. They had shipped us off as discoverers, but to the planet we were invaders and became its prisoners. They had destroyed our Earth, to create theirs. And us, they would lay us beneath the numb lake until we submerged and never resurfaced viable again. Now I knew the truth, but it was too late. The lake overflowed with unpliable corpse that marked our postmortem. That was their “Super-Earth”

Dead-Earth

“Super-Earth, huh,” said the Prime Minister.

“It’s our only hope,” replied Elon. He was pitching his idea to the government, for there was no alternate action.

But that was a long time ago. 276 years later, the construction of the first Mega-Ship was finally completed. It was made to fit half of the human population, which at the time, was a whopping 20 billion people. The ship was fast too. It traveled at a speed of 74948 km/h, exactly a quarter of the speed of light. Elon would have been proud. After approximately 87000 years, the ship neared its destination. However, the planet wasn’t showing up anywhere. After years of unintended searching, it seemed like the planet didn’t exist. Everyone wished they were still on the dead Earth.
