Him and I
I could feel his grip loosen around my fingers, I tried to hold on longer and tighter, but the end was close. He was slipping away. I could hear his heartbeat diluting with the sound of the clock beside his bed ticking away every breath he had left. A second passed, I was on the floor, another, tears were dripping down my puffed red cheeks and into his chapped hand that I was grasping onto desperately. The monitor started beeping, and they entered the room stomping, like an army going to war. They grabbed my body and hauled me out of the room. I was screeching with every tick and tock he had left. Then everything went silent and I could only hear a straight-line beep. I heard my jittery voice say, “I love you grandpa.”

A Man and His Friend

A man and his friend sat in his living room. They talked about politics, and religion, and the environment, and sexuality, and even the meaning of being human. They were good friends, however, they seemed to have a moment of discord. You see the man believed that being human meant changing your culture over time, while his friend thought that it meant having the ability to feel empathy. The argument dragged on for hours, and as it started getting heated, they decided to take it to the ping-pong table. Their discussion grew and advanced on the way, but they still didn’t reach a conclusion. After hours of walking along the hallway, they agreed that being human means having the ability to argue in good faith. And so, no longer did they need the ping-pong table.

A hockey game

It was the first time I went to a hockey game. There was twelve players, each had an important role. There was also two coaches, one was short and one was tall. People cared about the short coach more as he controlled who goes in and who doesn't. The short one always focuses and judges one of the players. The tall one was less appreciated. Although the tall one was the one who always reminded the short coach to move players, he isn't always needed. There was also a little boy on the field. He was one of the coaches sons. His shoes made a loud noise when he walked. TIK TOK TIK TOK TIK TOK. Sometimes, the little kid doesn't come to all games, and the game goes silent.Sometimes, He comes in the middle of the midnight and can't let others sleep.

Congratulations to our round 6 winner. A few words from your judge, Saif:

Congratulations to all of you, the winner of this round was Abdel-Aziz , I loved your symbolism and I felt like it was deep. However, Yasmeen's short story was also very good and chilling. Good job!"

My favorite line from Aziz's piece was: Sometimes, He comes in the middle of the midnight and can't let others sleep.

Aziz will get us our next prompt on Wednesday evening. Hope to see you in the next round.
