Prompt:
Ever wonder why turkey, the bird that some people eat, is called "turkey." Does it have anything to do with the country Turkey? Here is a 4-minute article that explains this "geographical mess." When you finish, create your own "geographical mess" explaining why something is called what it's called. Have fun. And if you happen to celebrate the holiday, Happy Thanksgiving.

The Many Fascinating Lives of the Word
Words are ideas. They are phonetic representations of the connections our neurons make on a daily basis. The irony is that a word also exist as both a series of sounds and the idea that those sounds represent something, it exists both as the portrait of the idea, the paint and the brush. Then is it not interesting that we consider paintings and stories art. Not because of the pen or the brush or the ink or the paint, but because of the artist. That an idea can be interpreted and changed but just as long as there is a seed of resemblance to the meaning we once knew, our eyes widen and we roll out the Nobel prize? Now I am not questioning the genius of Kafka or the blunt elegance of whoever writes Pepa pig. But if we can recognize that what they do is truly wonderful and unique. I vote we give an award to the Word, for most lives lived.

Mar, I've read your piece several times now, and i'm still turning the ending around in my head. I like where it took me, and i love that you dropped Peppa Pig into a line with Kafka. That is bathos at its finest.
