In the spirit of Ramadan and Lent, write a story about patience and/or sacrifice.

The First Goal - 150 words

As a child Abbey awoke before dawn, her skin tingling as the chilly morning air enveloped her. She would close her eyes before her stretches; the image of herself on the podium, flag draped across her shoulders, sometimes invoked tears. Running was her solace.

As her muscles loosened, her breath fogged the air. Pace yourself, she knew. Pace yourself, her coach stressed. Pace yourself, her body demanded. Incremental improvements suffocated, but her day would come. She was selected. On the track of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, she began her run confident.

Another runner Nikki stumbled, bringing Abbey down with her. At that moment, Abbey knew only compassion. She halted and extended her hand, lifting Nikki up, completing the race together.

A freshman at King’s Academy remembered watching this, as he turned from the net and passed the ball to a teammate, set to score his first goal, instead.
