Surfs Up!

there I was enjoying a good surf with Lindsey, the almost clear sea was buzzing with its dormant strength. As we’re ready to paddle to shore, my eyes creep down to see a shadow under us; Its silhouette doesn’t look like a harmless fish. In a split second, I come to terms it’s a great white shark. I give Lindsey a “do you see what I’m seeing look”. Sweat begins to trickle down my forehead and I can feel the adrenaline start to pump and not in a good way. My heart beats accelerate and it’s like I’m running a marathon with time. Time froze, and It’s continuing to circle us I can’t keep my balance much longer I’m shaking and I can feel every muscle in my body tensing up, My soul left my body and returned when I saw a bright red boat come towards us and I felt a weight lift off my shoulders, as soon as it became close enough Lindsey and I hopped on without hesitation.

Death Before Dawn

The quiet of an African night, the soft whistle of wind swishing through the tall grass, the subtle creeks of Earth cooling in the dark, but the calm is merely an illusion. One step out of place could mean death. Over the course of a single night, the serenity will be shattered as rampaging giants, cold-blooded killers, and creatures with a thirst for flesh bring death to the Savannah. On this iconic battleground, a never-ending, ruthless competition for survival takes place while the tension rises. The familiar morning transforms into eeriness and fear after sunset, a world witnessed by few where many do not survive. When the dark blankets the sky and hunger strikes, predator and prey watch each other keenly waiting for the right moment. The animals emerge cautiously. They move swiftly, knowing that in their world, they will eat or be eaten. As the hooded vale of death suddenly approaches, time seems to stand still,...but sometimes you might just get lucky, and the cycle of nature will continue.

Thank you Lamar and Leen for participating in this week's prompt! I really enjoyed both of your pieces. Leen, your piece really induced some panic in me for several moments and the vivid descriptions were great, especially with every muscle tensing up when it feels the character is "running a marathon against time." Lamar, I enjoyed how you explored the storm "shattered" the serenity of the night, and what really worked well in this piece was the variety in sentence structure that kept interrupting the rhythm, making me take small pauses. Lamar, you are this week's winner. Thank you both again!
