“Hurry up! It’s time to go!” a distant voice echoes through the chamber. In the back of the cavernous room, I hear thundering footsteps approach the entreating entrance to the inner door. Piercing torchlights tear through my cheek. None can resist the darkness in the enchanted desert land.

“Check this ship out!” a voice exclaims near the altar, peering at the outline of white fabric dotted with hieroglyphic script. A majestic purple gown stood adjacent, with its existing beauty a testament to its age. The man quickly rips away the cloth, revealing its shape, detaching the sealed ship from its stand. Slash. The main mast bends in half and the hull cripples away, dissipating into dust. The man, looking up at the gown in regretful contrast, folds the white cloth back over the broken ship.

“Never mind. I was imagining things,” the man shouts out towards the soundless eternal chamber. Without response, the man scampers back towards the chamber door. The unbroken silence replaces my uneasiness, and I embrace another slumber. Perhaps he has left to sell my teapots and cooking pans to his children.

Congratulations Oscar for being the winner! I am so glad that you took part in this week's challenge. I really enjoyed your Flash Fiction piece especially the part where you said, "The main mast bends in half and the hull cripples away, dissipating into dust." I could actually visualize it as I was reading. Great use of imagery and zesty language! Looking forward to reading more of your amazing writing!
