Prompt:
You are stuck in a labyrinth of sorts. Will you make it out? And if you do, what awaits you?

After the war, there was simply not enough food to keep everyone. Alex had never questioned this. He accepted that the women and young would be immune and protected. Of the boys, only the intelligent would be allowed to survive: those able to outwit the Labyrinth. There had never been a year where more than twenty of the hundred odd twelve-year olds emerged alive from the maze’s dark alleys.

Tonight was his night. Alex’s mother had not been able to meet his eyes that day. Her lips brushed briefly against his forehead as the Monitors appeared to escort him to the entrance. The iron gates clanged behind him. Alex heard the lock. Others spent years training. Alex had spent his time thinking. He placed his right hand on the thorny wall to his right, he knew to succeed he must not remove it. He took his first step forward.

I Feel Good, I Know that I Would

The music blasts through my headphones, just loud enough to pull me out of the static that's been sickening my mind from so many hours of work. I sigh and look down into the gordian knot of tubes and tires that not even Alexander the great could untie. Because Alexander the Great didn't untie the gordian knot did he? He cut through it. I have enough experience to know that the solution to this engine's problems are not going to be resolved within the kaleidoscope of grey knobs and grease. Instead I lean back swiping sweat from my brow and leaving a trail of oil on my forehead. This one isn't going to be easy. The hydrator is broken and the alternator is more beet up than my sedan, but as I feel the music swell around me again. I anticipate not only the chorus of my favorite song, but the feeling of being dropped in the middle of a maze and knowing exactly where to turn.

Insomnia
Word Count:150
I did not mean to terrorize my own mind, and I never meant to be wishing for the one thing my own head wouldn't give me.

Sleep.

You would think I would have escaped this problem by now, maybe at least, I would have given up, but I can't, for some reason, I can't leave. With each twist, and turn I take, I want to dream more and more, run free from the knowledge that haunts me.

I wish and wish to close my eyes and have the images turn to dreams where thoughts are littered and imagination crawls. I imagine myself sleeping, but each time I think of the things that have happened in this world, my mind screams, and I can't doze, maybe the truth is that if I sleep when I wake will be faced with anger, not happiness, maybe without rest, I will be content.

Title: Nowhere and Everywhere

Blood created a sickly warm coat on the fragile skin of my ankles. Twigs and thorns scraped my arms, the breeze bitterly cold and futile against the constant boiling drumming of my skull. Crimson made the sandpaper of my lips sting and cry like salt on a wound. The perpetual path to nowhere and everywhere might’ve worn me down had my adrenaline not been surging despite the faint pump, pump, pump of my heart. A contrasting illuminance became ever so vibrant as I forced my knees to run, run, run. Yes, I was so very close. A turn to the left and sunlight blinds my eyes, unused to the sweet and painful liberation light entailed.
A turn to the right and “yes, yes yes!” The brightness called out to me, begged to hold me in its welcoming embrace. And as my ankles and my arms touched the great brightness, twigs and thorns scraped my body all at once, and forced me to run, yet again, through the perpetual, dark path to nowhere and everywhere.
